3RD-8TH GRADE COMPETITIVE

PLEASE READ THROUGH ALL THE INFORMATION BELOW BEFORE REGISTERING!

Coon Rapids Competitive Basketball is a program designed for players in grades 3-8 in the Coon Rapids Community that wish to experience an increased level of competitive basketball!

Players go through a tryout process and are placed on teams that correspond with their skill level. Our program is about both skill development on the court as well as personal development. We strive to develop players with strong commitment to hard work, positive attitudes and sportsmanship! We are training tomorrow’s leaders.

"Cardinal Teamwork"

CRCBC is proud of our great relationship with the HS program! For multiple years, members of the JV and Varsity squads are spending time with our travel teams to mentor and inspire. We look forward to watching our boys develop and work towards their goals of being the next in line to carry on the proud tradition of Coon Rapids Cardinal Basketball!

Ages

What aged players are appropriate for this program?

Our competitive program is open to boys and girls in grades 3-8, who attend Coon Rapids Schools.

When

What time of the year does this program run?

Our competitive program runs from September to March.

Where

Where are practices and games typically held?

Practices are held at elementary, middle, and high schools within Coon Rapids, and occasionally at Anoka Ramsey Community College, also in Coon Rapids.

Tournaments are held throughout the Twin Cities Metro Area. Grades 5-8 have one out of town tournament in Rochester, at the end of the season.

Practices

When are practices and how often are they?

Practices are held M-F at Coon Rapids Schools. Most teams will have 2 practices a week. We try to schedule the younger kids earlier, and the older kids later. Practices are typically 1.5-2 hours long.

Games

How many games will they play? What days of the week?

Grades 4-8: Tournaments typically consist of three games. Most tournaments try to schedule a team's games all in one day. Tournaments are on weekends, so you can expect to play a full day on either Saturday or Sunday, with the exception of the Rochester Tournament (grades 5-8) and the State Tournament (grades 4-8).

Grade 3: Our third graders compete in the MYAS Third Grade League, and will play in 5 third-grade tournaments that consists of 2 games in one day.

Number of Tournaments:

  • Grade 3: 5
  • Grade 4: 7
  • Grades 5-8: 9

Jerseys

Are jerseys provided or are they purchased separately?

Jerseys are a separate cost, and paid for during registration. They are used for a two-year cycle. 2025-2026 is the start of a new uniform cycle, and all players must purchase a uniform this season, to be used for two years. New uniform kits or individual pieces may be purchased the following year if needed.

Players will be able to try on sample uniforms at tryouts. After tryouts they will be able to order their sizes, since they paid for the uniform during registration.

FAMILY COMMITMENT

3rd-8th Grade: All families with players in grades 3-8 are required to have adults work ONE shifts per child (3 hours per shift) during our boys home tournament, with a maximum of 2 shifts (up to 6 hours) per family.

NOTE: this is new for grades 5-8 this year. Typically, each family in grades 5-8 needs to sign up for TWO shift per player. Since we do not have a girls tournament this year, we are requiring just ONE shift per player. This may change in 2026.

Family commitment sign-up will be available online closer to Boys Tournament in November. The boys tournament is the only opportunity to fulfill these hours as we are not running a girls tournament this year.

***Any family who does not fulfill their family commitment at the Boy's Home Tournament will be charged $200 through the Crossbar system.***

If you are not interested in working the tournament to fulfill your family commitment, a flat $150 payment will be collected at registration to cover your hours.
